An acquaintence's blog had some photos with side lit subjects and a dark background. Experimentation with severe underexposure produced this photo.

This is an interesting exposure. Its not done justice by viewing the smaller shot on the blog page. The detail of the full resolution shot along with depth of the black void behind really caught my attention.
